Carbon-neutral council campaigning…

 Carbon-neutral council campaigning…

In celebration of the news of the $600,000 worth of funding to be spent on bicycling infrastructure in Launceston, and to promote the importance of carbon-awareness, climate change action and renewable energy initiatives, Monique Huyskens, Greens Candidate for the Launceston City Council today launched her quirky, carbon-neutral campaign tool. As an alternative to other carbon-emitting forms of promotion seen on our roads, Ms Huyskens is campaigning using her own renewable energy – pedal power.

“In campaigning as a Greens candidate, it is imperative to draw attention to climate change, and to stress the urgent need for action. One key area is the reduction of carbon emissions, and the Launceston City Council has joined more than 233 other local governments (84%) around Australia, through the Cities for Climate Protection program, in committing to reduce both Council and community emissions”.

“Commuter cycling is an excellent way to reduce carbon emissions, lessening road congestion and being more active, and we need to continue to pursue funding opportunities for further development of cycling infrastructure”.

As a Greens Alderman on the Launceston City Council, I will commit to pursuing opportunities for renewable energy developments, to taking firm action on climate change and to look strategically at the reduction of carbon emissions”.
