Denison candidate launched
29 June 2010 - 1:00pm
Senator Bob Brown today launched the Tasmanian Greens candidate for the Federal seat of Denison – Dr Geoff Couser. The launch, held in Hobart, was also attended by the Tasmanian Greens lead Senate candidate, Senator Christine Milne. The launch marks the start of an exciting campaign for the Tasmanian Greens. “With the retirement of a long-term ALP incumbent, Denison has the opportunity now to vote for something new and to let Canberra know that Denison has for too long been taken for granted.” Dr Couser opened.
“Denison residents are tired of being overlooked by successive Federal Governments in favour of more marginal seats. Denison voters are ready for a representative with strong ideas and experience in the areas that matter most to them – health, education and the protection of Tasmania’s unique environment.”
Dr Couser is an emergency medical specialist with the Royal Hobart Hospital, a senior lecturer in Medicine at the University of Tasmania and sits on the Board of the Tasmanian Land Conservancy, a premier private conservation body.
“I have the hands-on experience, the first-hand understanding and the to-the-core commitment to engage in a meaningful debate about root and stem health reform and education in this country.” Dr Couser continued. “I have no greater interest at heart than seeing Denison benefit from the best public systems we can create and achieving the kind of recognition that Denison can only receive through Green representation.”
